These are for Kate.
Today I went on a walk, early-ish (10am) because it’s hot here — though not miserable like in DC, from what I can tell from twitter. So glad I moved! Even though I was bitching here about the weather all spring because it was, like, a real spring. This is the weather I was waiting for.
So I’d visited this pony/horse farm in the winter, when I got here and went exploring. That was February, and I was feeling adventurous so I hiked (I still kind of can’t believe I did this) through the garrigues and ended up with scratches on my face and tears in my clothes and I broke my shoes and seeds and stuff ended up in my socks and it was a big mess. I found the horses, obviously, but didn’t really understand what the whole thing was. A horse farm? Random stables? It looks like they had some sort of equestrian circle thing set up, but I don’t know, I’m not a horse-person, and no one was ever there. And frankly, even if someone had been there, at that time I spoke all of three words of French so I probably would’ve just waived or run away mumbling something incomprehensible.
But yesterday, when we were driving home from Montpellier, I noticed these new “Poney Club” (sic) signs nailed to the utility posts, and got so excited. PONEY CLUB. I still have no idea what it is, other than it’s officially a place to look at ponies. But whatever. Today the ponies were out in a neighboring field eating the shrubbery and I could go up and pet them.
Also it’s my greatest regret not taking Phoebe here while she was visiting. Next time.
This is the greatest internet gift I have ever been given.
